(Aurora, CO) -- At its recent conference in Barcelona, Spain, Tetra Laval recognized Graebel International with its 2009 Environmental award for outstanding progress and commitment to the environment. Tetra Laval Group is an industry leader in the field of food equipment, and consists of three independent industry groups, Tetra Pak, DeLaval, and Sidel. Tetra Pak provides processing and packaging solutions for food; DeLaval specializes in milking systems, equipment and products; Sidel is the leading global supplier of beverage packaging equipment. Altogether, the Group employs 32,191 people worldwide, and is headquartered at Lausanne, Switzerland.
In 1996, Tetra Laval first brought together its global supply chain to learn more about the removal (moving) industry from its suppliers, and to engender its strong environmental commitment with these suppliers. Sixteen companies worldwide attended this year’s conference, and this total is a one hundred-percent increase from its conference in 2005 - evidence that attention to environmental issues is driving global businesses to a common cause.
At the 2005 conference in Sweden, Bill Graebel, chief executive officer of the Graebel Companies, Inc., committed that his organization would aggressively seek and foster additional eco-friendly initiatives. When presented with the 2009 Environmental award, Mr. Ralph Hoglund, chair of the Barcelona conference and former global director of Tetra Laval Group Transport & Travel, and now board member of Alfa Quality Moving shared, “From that day in 2005, Bill has done tremendous work and personal engagement to keep his promise; and therefore, he is a worthy winner of this award. He did not merely listen, he heard the Tetra Laval message, and learned about us, and will hopefully grow with Tetra Laval and also with Alfa Quality Moving.”
Initiatives that ceo, Bill Graebel instituted in the company’s environmental efforts included an ongoing review and eco-analysis of facilities, equipment and moving processes including materials. Companywide business practices cover recycling and re-use of office equipment, furnishings, and moving debris wherever practical and possible by law; purchase of moving containers with post-consumer material without compromising container integrity with materials branded with soy or water-based inks; widely expanded use of technology to reduce paper reliance; controlled interior and exterior lighting; consideration of carbon footprint reduction during facility site selections and when dispatching moving equipment; sourcing eco-friendly suppliers; and encouraging employee ideas via ongoing green communication campaigns internally. In 2007, the Graebel Movers International, Inc. Colorado-based group was ISO 14001 certified.
According to Graebel, “Our values and culture are based on corporate and social responsibility. We believe it is our responsibility to provide outstanding customer service, be stewards of the environment, and to be involved in our community. “
When asked about the firm's environmental best practices, Graebel shared, “All divisions share the same objective to find and adopt conservancy, specifically when performing clients’ services. For instance, a Fortune 100 client called on our commercial workplace services division to help with its campus footprint consolidation. This project resulted in 3,208 tons of recyclable or re-purposed material never reaching landfills, because we judiciously pre-planned every detail with this client. Whenever we move a customer’s office, plastic totes and lock-top plastic crates vs. corrugate containers are recommended to minimize impact on landfills.”
Previous removal companies earning the Environmental award include: Elliot, Packimpex, Santa Fe Relocation, Asian Tigers, and Alfa Quality Moving.
The next Tetra Laval conference is expected to take place 2011.
