DENVER – Graebel announced this week the promotion of Richard Payne to Director of Risk Management & Safety from his previous position of Risk Manager. In addition to his claims and risk management responsibilities, which include litigation management, loss control, and insurance procurement and management, Payne will now also oversee Graebel’s award-winning Safety Department, which is responsible for functions including drivers’ qualifications, vehicle inspections, DOT compliance and fuel tax.

Payne joined Graebel in 1994 as an Insurance Coordinator responsible for workers’ compensation oversight. Over the next 11 years, he held a variety of positions within the company, each offering increasing responsibility.

Because Payne has worked closely with the Safety Department during his entire tenure at Graebel, he was uniquely qualified to lead it under his expanded role.

“Because of his experience working with the Graebel Safety Department, Richard has a tremendous understanding and appreciation of what is really a mission-critical function for our company,” said Tom Sims, Chief Administration Officer. “He also has an in-depth understanding of the complex processes that are essential for success in this area. We really feel that Richard is uniquely equipped and qualified to lead this department, and expand upon its previous successes.”
